Ivory and Stone Knife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, while I was on a roll with the knapped steel knife, I got a wild hair to make a miniature stone bladed knife. \u00a0I had a few chips of lovely chalcedony I collected from what I call &#8220;The Nevada Death March.&#8221; \u00a0This came from an old mining site about 60 miles east of Battle Mountain, Nevada. \u00a0Not a soul in site, on the top of a small mountain, and the only place in the world I&#8217;ve ever been (and that&#8217;s saying a lot!) where there wasn&#8217;t a light in sight in any direction. \u00a0And I could see for about 30-40 miles in any direction.<\/p>\n<p><img data-attachment-id=\"2111\" data-permalink=\"http:\/\/sterlingsculptures.com\/wp\/?attachment_id=2111\" \/>\nI decided to base the design on a stone age sculpture I&#8217;ve always liked, from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.serbia.travel\/culture\/archaeological-sites\/lepenski-vir\/\">Lepenski Vir<\/a>\u00a0site in Serbia. \u00a0She is often called the &#8220;Fish Goddess,&#8221; but she strikes me more as a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sheela_na_gig\">Sheela na gig<\/a>\u00a0from the UK or Ireland.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sterlingsculptures.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Ivory_Stone_Knife_1.jpg\"><img data-attachment-id=\"2112\" \/><\/a>And, above are the final results, with an elk antler and walnut presentation box. \u00a0The blade is held in with charcoal and pitch (an ancient stone age recipe), and artificial sinew wrappings. \u00a0I went with artificial sinew, rather than actual sinew, because the tiny dust mites in the house will render real sinew into dust in just a few years.<\/p>\n<p>Available soon
