Press-Forming Adventures Part 5
Today I’m working on making a pendant from the little silver hummingbird skull I press formed during our last visit. I’m engraving a piece of Grade 2 titanium for the back of the pendant. I’m hoping the gray color of … Continue reading

Press-Forming Adventures Part 4
Well, the owl worked out so well, I decided a hummingbird was in order. If you recall the “encouraging failure” from the first post in this series, I used the copper sheet pressing from that to chase a small hummingbird … Continue reading

Press-Forming Adventures Part 3
Now it’s time to begin the finishing process. I’m going to be “chasing” the final details here, so will be filling and embedding the copper piece in pitch. But, since I intend to use my Lindsay Airgraver in the chasing … Continue reading

Press-Forming Adventures Part 2
Above is the finished press die installed on a 1/4 inch thick aluminum disk (bolted on utilizing the hole I drilled and tapped on the bottom of the steel owl skull form). The copper piece in the center is the … Continue reading

Press-Forming Adventures Part 1
Above images courtesy of BladeGallery.com And a work-in-progress image of my own. In the past I’ve experimented with carving bird skulls from antler, and some with small helmets. While they proved popular, all of the above works were terribly labor … Continue reading

More Fun with Titanium
Here’s a small Praying Mantis pendant in 1/8 inch thick Grade 2 titanium. It was a delight to engrave, unlike the AL6V4 titanium I tried earlier. Above is my take on a “knapped” Ishi arrow point, also hand carved from … Continue reading

Ants Miseretto part 21 – FINISHED!
On the final stretch! Today I finished up the centipede legs and the bark, as well as finalizing the patina. I’ll look it over for a few days for anything I might have missed, but otherwise I think it’s done! … Continue reading

Ants Miseretto part 20
I spent yesterday working on the centipede, here about halfway done. I still need to round over all the legs, and finish up the bark. I used small carbide burrs, tiny flat gravers and punches to shape the centipede and remove … Continue reading

Ants Miseretto part 19
Carving the bark today, before I get too far on the centipede. Above, I’ve begun carving the bark using a round graver with a pretty broad sweep. You can see three little bark spots I’ve already completed, and the gold … Continue reading
